The Gateway Process
The Gateway Process is a purposeful, highly individual journey towards our evolutionary potential with Nature and Spirit as our Great Teachers. Each consecutive gateway contains specific teachings, initiations, practices and ceremonies that lead to increased self-knowledge, balance and maturity, ultimately revealing the True Nature of your Undiscovered Self.

It is ultimately a personal journey, governed by you and Spirit, and so, even though our year programs are designed to take you through the first three gateways, you are asked to engage in one year program at a time.​​
1st Gateway
The intent of the first gateway is to discover your path with heart and explore your relationship to the Worlds of Grandmother Earth;
the Minerals, Plants, Animals and Spirit. This is the beginning of the Great Work; the journey towards connection and healing.​​
2nd Gateway
The intent of the second gateway is to look within and confront the enemies of Self, so they become teachers, allies and companions, supporting you to make physical-tonal substance changes for the better; gaining more health, hope, happiness, harmony and humour. ​​
3rd Gateway
The intent of the third gateway is
to become a Rainbow Warrior who
is teachable. An important aspect of the Great Work is to erase personal history and heal the inner child. This
healing creates a new form;
a spiritual warrior.​​
Year Programs
2025-26
Our group year programs run from October to September and consist of 4 online teaching days, that include personal ceremonies, practices and exercises to do at home, and 2 on-site weekend gatherings with larger ceremonies, guided training and practices in nature.
In addition, we invite you to participate in at least 1, of the 2 ceremonial gatherings held at the Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, as this will greatly enhance your gateway process.

Wheels of Knowledge
Wheels or circles have been used to convey understanding of the energy patterns that govern Life and Creation by wisdom and mystery schools for millennia. Linear thinking is seen as a limited, artificial construct or illusion, as the natural world, life, all Creation move and evolve in circles or cycles. Our right brain naturally works in a circular fashion, and this is the part we cultivate when playing/working with the wheels and keys.
This may be a new experience, but with a little practice it allows us to tap into our original creativity and bypasses the need for rote learning. There is no beginning or end point when one views life from within a circle, there are simply changing points of reference that strengthen our capacity for an open, flexible, clear mind. The SMSD Wheels of Knowledge give us the opportunity to consciously establish our interconnection with all forms of Life.
Warrior Tasks
The Wheels of Knowledge give us intellectual or theoretical concepts, connections and possibilities. However, for real change to occur it is necessary for us to make the shift from believing something, to knowing something. True knowledge is felt.
Warrior Tasks are the application of the wheels and practices in our lives, we test them to see if they truly work as keys that unlock doors to that we are seeking to experience in our life. It is when we feel an increase of health in our body, balance in our emotions, clarity in our mind and the expansion of our Spirit that we know transformation has occurred, the knowledge has been integrated and therefore it is our own.
Ceremony
Engaging in ceremony is a personal act of empowerment that brings an awakening and a gain in energy that nourishes our True Nature Spirit. During a ceremony our awareness is heightened, we experience other states of consciousness and dimensions, and our spirit expands. This expansion gives us alternative perspectives that will bring new insights, accelerate our transformation and deepen our connection to our True Nature and with Creation.
Ceremonial alchemy is an integral part of the Gateway process, and within our year programs there are many different types of ceremonies, including purification Lodges. All are facilitated by a fully qualified ceremonial Dance Chief in our Twisted Hairs tradition.
Purification Lodges
The primary purpose of this ceremony is to cleanse and re-establish a connection to Spirit through intent and prayer. The specific intent will vary, for example, it may be to align with the natural cycles, to heal the body, mind, and spirit, to replenish our energy, to ask for guidance, or support with a loss or change, for a closer connection to one’s Higher Self, or to offer prayers for others.
